Technology used
Open Platforms
ByteCrafts uses open source platforms at all levels of the solutions we offer, starting from the operating system hosting the application, moving on to the database, web server or other specialised application server supporting the solution, right down to the programming language used for the development and customization.
Operating System
All our solutions are designed to be hosted and run on a Linux dustribution. Although any up to date Linux distribution should be capable to serve as a platform to host our solutions, we generally prefer to use CentOs Linux.
Even though we would encourage the usage of Linux on the client side also, we understand that we must offer solutions that tie in seamlesly with your current I.T infrastructure, so all our applications are compatible with Linux, Windows and Macintosh clients. In most cases all that is needed on the client side is a web browser such as Firefox.
Tools and Servers
Software Development
PHP
PHP is a scripting language that was born in 1995 specifically for developing dynamically created web pages. Today it's probably the most popular language on the web. It's under constant development and expansion by a large community of developers.
MySQL
MySQL is a relational database management system, owned by Sun Microsystems, a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation. It's used by major web projects like Wikipedia, Google and Facebook, to store and fetch the data that visitors find on those sites.
jQuery
jQuery is a powerful library for scripting at the client side. It supports all major browsers, and allows web pages to have effects and animations, as well as a lot of interactivity between the visitor and the web server without reloading the page.
Apache
Apache is the most common web server on the internet, currently serving over half of the websites globally. Having played a key role in the initial growth of the world wide web, it has been the most popular web server since 1996. It's mature, secure and boasts excellent performance.
Content Management
Drupal
Drupal is a poweful content management platform. It's flexibility, extendibility and wealth of features make it the most attractive open source CMS in the market. This is why we don't find it surprising that in addition to our clients, Drupal is also behind sites like the White House, MTV UK, London, and many others.
